Piaget’s Protocole watches are distinguished by their sculptural rectangular cases and layered architecture, reflecting the brand’s longstanding emphasis on precious-metal craftsmanship and expressive design. Reference 74101 brings that aesthetic into a compact dress watch, with rounded corners and a deeply stepped profile that gives the case considerably more presence than its dimensions might suggest. It is a distinctive example of Piaget’s experimental approach to shaped watches during the late 1970s and 1980s.
This example features an 18K yellow-gold case surrounding a champagne sunburst dial with perimeter dot markers, two gold-tone hands, and a clean two-hand quartz display. The caseback is secured by four screws and bears the engraved 74101 reference. The watch is fitted with a custom-made navy leather strap that remains unworn, paired with an aftermarket gold-tone buckle. Its unusual case shape, restrained dial and slim proportions create a particularly elegant and unmistakably vintage presentation.
The watch is in overall nice condition, showing light scratches and signs of wear to the case. The dial has a light ding, and the caseback displays light surface wear consistent with age and use.
