Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Jumbo Ref. 3879 18K Yellow Gold Box & Papers

Reference 3879 dates to Patek Philippe’s quartz-era dress-watch production of the late 20th century, with auction records documenting examples from around 1980-81. The reference is distinguished by its broad cushion-shaped precious-metal case, stepped bezel, restrained baton dial, and simple two-hand display. Powered by Patek Philippe’s E27 quartz caliber, the 3879 represents a particularly clean period of the manufacture’s dress-watch design, pairing traditional gold construction with the quartz technology Patek Philippe was incorporating into its collection.

This example features an approximately 36 mm 18K yellow-gold case with a champagne-tone dial, applied baton hour markers, outer minute track, and central hour and minute hands. Inside is Patek Philippe’s caliber E27 quartz movement. The watch is currently fitted with a new blue denim/jean-style strap, and the buckle is not original to the watch. It is accompanied by its Patek Philippe box and original papers. A Patek Philippe caseback sticker also remains present on the watch.

The watch is in overall very nice condition and presents cleanly on the wrist. The yellow-gold case shows light signs of wear consistent with careful use. Slight discoloration can be seen on the dial around approximately the 1 and 7 o’clock positions, although it is relatively subtle and not too noticeable on the wrist.
